Books to Read This Fall

6 books to read this fallSomething about fall makes me want to read ALL the books.

Maybe it’s the cooler evenings, or the fact that I can finally settle into the corner of the couch with a blanket and a book without feeling like I should be outside.

Whatever it is, my fall TBR pile is already getting a little ridiculous.

Here are a few books I’m planning to read this fall. Some are brand new releases, some are books I’ve been waiting for, and a couple have been sitting on my list for a while.

Under Story by Chloe Benjamin

This one is at the very top of my list.

Chloe Benjamin wrote The Immortalists, which I loved, and her new novel sounds like exactly the kind of book I want to get lost in this fall.

It follows a scientist in Antarctica whose life takes an unexpected turn when a strange discovery opens the possibility of going back in time.

I’m intrigued already.

The Pirate Queen by Ariel Lawhon

I loved The Frozen River, so when I saw that Ariel Lawhon had a new book coming out, this one immediately went on my list.

The Pirate Queen tells the story of Grace O’Malley, the legendary Irish pirate queen who lived in sixteenth-century Ireland and commanded a fleet while fighting to protect her people.

Historical fiction, a fascinating woman, and a little adventure?

Yes, please.

I’m expecting this one to be hard to put down.

Big Little Truths by Liane Moriarty

If you read Big Little Lies, you probably already know why this one is on my list.

Ten years have passed since we last saw Madeline, Celeste, Jane, Renata, and Bonnie, and their kids are now teenagers.

Which means the drama has changed considerably.

I love Liane Moriarty’s complicated friendships, family dynamics, secrets, and all the messy relationships that make her books so much fun to read.

Basically, I’m ready to catch up with these women.

Dead Beat by Leigh Bardugo

This is a must-read for me.

It’s the third and final book in Leigh Bardugo’s Ninth House series, so if you’ve read Ninth House and Hell Bent, you already know why this one is going straight onto my nightstand.

I love a good series, but I especially love when I’ve invested in the characters and finally get to see how the story ends.

I’m always a little sad when a series I love comes to an end.

The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston

This one has been sitting on my list for a while, and fall feels like the perfect time to finally read it.

It’s a romance about a ghostwriter who returns home after her father’s death—and then encounters a ghost of her own.

It’s funny, romantic, a little spooky, and was a Good Morning America Book Club pick.

Basically: ghosts + romance + fall = I’m in.

The Many Lives of Mama Love by Lara Love Hardin

This one caught my attention because it was an Oprah’s Book Club pick, but the story itself is what made me add it to the list.

It’s Lara Love Hardin’s memoir about addiction, incarceration, motherhood, shame, and ultimately rebuilding a life.

I’m always drawn to stories about women who find their way through complicated seasons and come out the other side changed.

I have a feeling this one will stay with me.

So that’s what’s on my fall reading list right now.

Will I read all of them? Let’s not get carried away. But I’m going to try.

And if you’ve read any of these—or have a book you think absolutely needs to be added to my fall list—send it my way.

I’m always looking for my next good read.

Happy reading, friends.
